Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist in North Vancouver?
No referral is needed. Physiotherapists in British Columbia are primary-care practitioners — you can book directly without seeing a doctor first. Your extended-health plan may still require a referral for reimbursement, so check your policy. ICBC and WorkSafeBC do not require a physician referral to start physiotherapy.
How many physiotherapy sessions does ICBC cover after a car accident?
Under BC's Enhanced Care model, ICBC pre-approves up to 25 physiotherapy sessions within the first 12 weeks after a motor vehicle accident — no GP referral and no upfront cost. Registered massage therapy, kinesiology, and acupuncture are each pre-approved for 12 sessions. If you need more, your physiotherapist can submit an extension request. Full ICBC guide →

Sports physiotherapy in North Vancouver, done differently.
Medstar Sport Physio & Health offers sports physiotherapy in North Vancouver from a clinic at 1325 Marine Drive. Founded in 2018 and staffed by registered physiotherapists holding doctoral and master's degrees, the clinic specialises in hands-on, one-on-one rehabilitation for sport injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and workplace injuries. Direct billing is available for ICBC, WorkSafeBC, and most major extended health plans including Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, and Great-West Life.
The clinic is the first on the North Shore to offer High-Power Laser Therapy (Class IV photobiomodulation) and one of the few clinics in North Vancouver offering TECAR Therapy — a radiofrequency modality used for deep tissue heating and accelerated repair. Alongside these advanced technologies, the team delivers IMS dry needling, manual osteopathy, registered massage therapy, kinesiology, shockwave therapy, acupuncture, custom orthotics, and clinical counselling under one roof. The clinic also runs specialist programmes for vestibular physiotherapy (dizziness, BPPV, post-concussion balance) and concussion management.
Appointments are available Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM, and Saturday 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Free parking is available on-site. ICBC clients are pre-approved for 12 weeks of treatment under BC's Enhanced Care model — no referral required.
